Musings from
Andie
Dear Branch Members,
Hello... everyone! We
got off to a marvelous start for the New Year. It's not bad
enough to be tempted with eggnog and fruit cake... now we
are about to be besieged with Valentine's Day chocolates.
Let's speak up ladies of the AAUW.
Anyways, Laura Long will
be handling the details for the Write-Read-Write
program. “Price and sort” continues. Our next meeting
should prove to be quite interesting and we will be dining
at Ruby Tuesday. I'll ask for the low calorie menu. (What
that really means is bread and water.)
We also have a list of
people who want to join. If you know of anyone from your
work, church, or other clubs, please call me. I'm working
now on a proposed project to get our local branch mentioned
in the local university newsletter. This should prove to be
exciting.
You be good now and try
to keep away from the Valentine's Day candy. We all know
what it can do to the hips.
Sincerely,
Andie

What do Elvis Presley, Hula Hoops, Willie Mays and Howdy
Doody have in common?
Come to the meeting in February and we will all
"Remember the Fifties" with song and entertainment!

April meeting and book club discussion
"Where the Heart Is" by Billie Letts. An Ophra Book
Club book that is moving, funny and takes you on an
unforgettable journey of a 17 year old, 7 months
pregnant, left stranded at a Wal-Mart in Sequoyah,
OK with little money and knowing no-one. Though some
members have already read this book and I understand
it was a made for TV show, we hope you will join in
on the discussion. There are several copies
available at Ross Library and my copy will soon be
available to pass around should you wish not to
purchase it.

READ-WRITE-READ |

Write-Read-Write
is well underway. The program was introduced to
the two fifth grade teachers at Renovo
Elementary School, Ms. Bottorf and Ms. Bechdel.
I have gone to the classrooms and talked to the
students and gave them permission slips to take
home to their parents.
At the January
meeting and as a result of the email message
that was sent out, there are 19 volunteers to
purchase a book for one or two students, which
would cover the 32 students. I am hoping that
more members will volunteer so each will be
needed to provide only one book. Perhaps some
members haven't had a chance to contact me, yet,
or, may know someone who is not a member who
would like to get involved in this project.
Call
748-7316 or email
lwlong@kcnet.org
The letters
should be available to be distributed at the
February AAUW meeting. Thank you all for your
help.
Love and Peace,
Laura |
