 Letter from Laura

A Letter from Laura

It is Election Day. My friends from both parties have worked especially hard to convince the undecided to vote in their column.  How can our country be so evenly divided? Will it pan out to be as close as we are led to believe?

However it goes and by whatever margin, we have to reunite our country.  Aren't we all for the same thing, really?.  This is just a conflict on how best to get there. We need to work together for the things that are important to all of us.

PEACE ON EARTH.

Justice for ALL

Freedom from Want

Good Jobs, Social Security, Safety Net, Healthy business environment

Quality Free Public Education and other choices

Freedom from Fear

Freedom of Religion

Freedom of Speech

Freedom from a Toxic Environment

Affordable Health Care Choices

Affordable Medicine

You can add your own to my list.  I know this is just a start.  We all must work together regardless of politics to make our country the greatest it has ever been.

God Bless America

Laura

Minutes of the Branch Meeting of October 7, 2004

The American Association of University Women, Lock Haven Branch met on October 7, 2004 at Great Island Presbyterian Church with 15 members in attendance.  Laura Long welcomed everyone and called the meeting to order.

Reports of Officers:

Secretary:  The minutes of the September meeting were approved as issued in the Lockletter.

Treasurer The Treasurer’s report was accepted as issued in the Lockletter.
Amy Carroll reported that the 2003-2004 Budget was inadvertently printed in the mailed version of the Lockletter instead of the 2004-2005 Budget.  The correct budget was printed in the online version of the
Lockletter.
Amy reported the following change made at the September board meeting to the 2004-2005 Budget.  In the budget, as it was presented at the September meeting (9/2/04), the contingency fund held $1320.98.  At the September board meeting (9/16/04) the board agreed that $1,000.00 should be moved from the contingency fund to the scholarship fund leaving $320.98 in contingency.  A motion was made and seconded to approve this change.  The motion carried.

Program Chair Andie Bennett reported that the November meeting will consist of the community concert on November 21st at 3:00 pm at the Price Auditorium, Lock Haven University immediately followed by a wine and cheese tasting party at Schaefer’s Winery and Tasting Room, 70 Woodward Avenue in Dunnstown.  The December meeting will be dinner at Ichiban Japanese Restaurant, 1800 East Third Street, Williamsport, on December 2, 2004 at 6:30.

EF News

Our branch received this letter from Tracy Foster.  It surely helped to make my day...

"AAUW members,

I want to thank you again for the undergraduate scholarship.  The current class I am taking requires a great deal of traveling and extra materials.  With your assistance, I have not needed to borrow any money.

You have a wonderful group, and I wish you many years of success.  I will be honored to join in 2006.  Please call when the Book Sale comes around, and I will help.

Tracy Foster"

Beth Brobst, EF Chair

Our Member's Best Wishes go to--

Natalie Newcomer's husband, Chuck, had surgery recently and is recuperating nicely.

Lois Day had some out-patient eye surgery and is doing well.

Bits and Pieces

Marie Selfe is collecting cookies again for the troops in Iraq.  If you wish to donate 2 or 3 dozen, put them on a paper plate, cover them with plastic wrap or foil, and bring them to the November 21st meeting. Happy Holidays to all.

We will again be sponsoring a Blood Drive on Wednesday, June 29, 2005.  Please put this on your calendar and then sign up to help when it is organized.

Please remember to bring your donation for Visionary Club--Millbrook to Nov. meeting.  If you are unable to attend meeting, please make checks payable to Millbrook Playhouse and send to Toni Tomasi by Dec.  There will be a benefit held at Central Mt. Middle School (BEN) for Millbrook at the end of November (I think the last Sat.)  We will try to have it announced at Nov. meeting and then put on the web page.
