A Letter from Laura

Winter sure has been knocking us around lately.  I guess it is making up for a long autumn.

On Saturday I slumped around watching old movies all day on TBS.  That's not something I usually do.  I sort of liked it too much.

Today the Eagles were winning with 7 minutes to go when I left the house.  I am not into professional sports, but I would love to have a Pennsylvania Super Bowl Game. It is up to the Steelers to get into the game tonight.  I am all for Pennsylvania and being from the Philadelphia area, I'm an Eagles fan.

Have you seen Joanne Bowes’ new Victorian front porch? Take a look at it when you ride by 220 West Water Street, Lock Haven. Then come to the meeting on February 5 to hear the lovely story about its restoration. We are planning to have lunch at Ruby Tuesdays after the meeting. Also, it is time for the Outstanding Women to meet.  Andie Bennett will be in touch with you to get together soon.

It is too bad the weather kept us from meeting at the Communication Center.  I have been there numerous times and I was looking forward to having those who have never been there see how protected we are.  It is worth a visit.

Our Visionary Fund pledge for Millbrook Playhouse is due soon.  Their mortgage payment is due in February.  If anyone has not contributed yet for that, please take this opportunity to do so, or maybe give even more.  The Playhouse was hit badly in the recent flooding. They lost a lot.

I am so excited about how many children will be getting a new book through our Write, Read, Write program.  I can't wait to see the pretty packages as they are brought in to the meeting on Saturday.  This is a wonderful, fun project.  Thanks, Pat.

Spring is on the way.  Do you notice that every night it stays light a little longer.  I bought a pot of mini-daffodils for my kitchen and then I thought I heard a spring bird in my neighborhood, yesterday.  It was only a kid whistling. Be patient, Laura. It will come.

Love and Peace,  Laura

EF Report

A note from our third scholarship recipient (received in November):

"I am very appreciative that the ladies of AAUW have assisted me in working towards my degree.  You have helped to provide many opportunities for me that I might not have otherwise had.

Thanks so very much.

Mary Ann Robyn Young"

Many members are sorting and pricing books for our next sale, which provides funds for the "opportunities" that Robyn mentioned.  Right on, members!  Every minute and every book counts!
